The Ministry of Defence has restored state ownership of a property complex encompassing 1,700 square meters, that was unlawfully privatized in the Kyiv region

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has reclaimed state ownership of a property complex of approximately 1,700 square meters that private individuals had unlawfully alienated. It is situated on a land plot exceeding 5 hectares in a picturesque area along the shores of a lake in the Kyiv region.

Private individuals possessing administrative influence, financial resources, and parliamentary authority unlawfully acquired the property in 2017. They transformed it into a recreational facility featuring a helipad and offering hunting services catered to affluent clients. 

At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Defence, following prolonged and diligent efforts to safeguard state interests, successfully reclaimed this property complex from unlawful possession. 

Such instances of illegal appropriation of state property are not isolated. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, many hunting and fishing areas remained on Ukrainian territory, with the Ministry of Defence being designated as their rightful owner in accordance with legislative provisions. This real estate and land attracted the attention of individuals seeking to unlawfully privatize them.

“Over the past three years, the Ministry of Defence has successfully reclaimed 14 properties, with a total area exceeding 6,500 square meters and 800 hectares of land across various regions of Ukraine. During wartime, such facilities are of critical importance to the country’s defense capabilities: they serve as bases for the deployment of military personnel and equipment, as well as for establishing training and rehabilitation centers,” said Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Dmytro Klimenkov.

Currently, state registration of property rights for the returned assets has been completed, ensuring their continued legal protection and exclusive use for defense purposes. 

The Ministry of Defence's Main Directorate for Defence Land and Funds emphasizes that incidents of illegal seizure of military facilities and defense land are not isolated; however, the Ministry is continuously working to detect and return such properties to state ownership.
