The Ministry of Defence has given the green light for the delivery of a unique field transformer kitchen

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and authorized the MK-500 field modular kitchen delivery. It is designed for the field use to cook meals for up to 500 military personnel.

Usually, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine mostly use old Soviet-era field kitchens KP-30, KP-75, KP-125, and KP-130 for cooking in the field setting. Soviet-style field kitchen trailers were limited to cooking two dishes concurrently. Old field kitchens run on wood or diesel fuel. That type of kitchen equipment does not provide comfortable workspace for personnel, cannot handle semi-finished foodstuff, does not have refrigerators for food storage, lacks dishwashing and drying facilities, etc.

A new modular kitchen for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was manufactured at one of the domestic defense industry enterprises. Ukrainian engineers designed the kitchen using the form factor of a 20-foot shipping container. The kitchen is transported to the site on a trailer or car-based chassis with standard fasteners. By the way, the modular kitchen can “detach itself” from the platform using hydraulic jacks. The set up time for the field kitchen with all the workstations and equipment is 2 hours. Up to six cooks can work together at a time in this module. These modules are designed for round-the-clock use in any weather or season, even when essential infrastructure is in ruins.

The modular kitchen is fully equipped for autonomous functioning, ensuring all necessary tools and facilities are available for cooking and for staff comfort: a pumping station, a drainage pump for pumping out waste, air conditioners, a sewage grease trap, kitchen exhaust systems, combi steamers, electric stoves, refrigerators, etc. In addition, the modular kitchen is equipped with a diesel generator.

The troops already have more than 20 kitchens of this kind. Military chefs note that the list of field kitchen equipment often exceeds that of modern restaurant-style catering facilities.
