The Minister of Defence discussed the prospects of joint defense procurement with the EU Commissioner

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Rustem Umerov, held a meeting in Brussels with the EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius.
The discussion centered on a critical issue for Ukraine—strengthening defense capabilities and advancing the defense industry. The Minister's first words were of appreciation to the European Union for its comprehensive support of Ukraine in both security matters and diplomacy.
“It is important that the EU consistently stands for a just and lasting peace. I am grateful for sustained constructive cooperation and commitment to finding solutions. We truly consider ourselves an integral part of the European family and highly value the EU's unwavering support,” Rustem Umerov emphasized.
Andrius Kubilius, in turn, stressed that Ukraine is a key component of European security: “This is officially enshrined in the White Paper for European Defence—a new strategic document that shapes the future of defence on the continent.”
The practical focus of the talks was on mechanisms to ensure the Ukrainian armed forces are equipped with arms and ammunition. Among the discussed tools was the prospect of joint procurement. The parties agreed to establish a joint Ukraine-EU working group to analyze opportunities for implementing specific arms projects.
Furthermore, the discussion addressed the launch of a new European mechanism for investing in the defense industry, enabling partners to pool resources for the joint production of critically needed weapons and ammunition.
