"The fight against economic crimes within the defence sector is a matter of national security," - Dmytro Klimenkov

In collaboration with the Economic Security Bureau, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence will combat economic crimes within the defence sector.

The ministry and the bureau have agreed on the algorithm for the transmission of internal audit materials for law enforcement officers to conduct investigations and the operational exchange of information on procurement.

This was discussed during the meeting of Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Klimenkov with acting director of the Economic Security Bureau Andriy Pashchuk.

"We are moving from the practice of responding to requests from law enforcement officers to the prompt exchange of information, including the results of our internal audit materials. The fight against economic crimes within the defence sector is a matter of national security," emphasised the Deputy Minister of Defence.

According to him, the Ministry of Defence further enforces preventive measures and reforms the procurement sector within the organisation.

From now on, the Ministry of Defence will be responsible for establishing regulations and conducting quality checks; procurement will be handled directly by the Lethal and Non-lethal Defence Acquisition Agencies.

"This division of functions helps to reduce corruption risks and increase economic efficiency," noted Dmytro Klimenkov.

For his part, the head of the Economic Security Bureau, Andriy Pashchuk, emphasised that cooperation between departments will prevent significant losses of budget funds and make the defence procurement process as transparent and efficient as possible.

Previously, the Ministry of Defence established constructive cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the National Police, and the Prosecutor General's Office in order to prevent crimes during procurement.
