The Defence Ministry has requested the Security Service of Ukraine to investigate potential document forgery by a food supplier

The MoD’s Department of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine has submitted an official notice to the Security Service of Ukraine regarding the possible falsification of accompanying documents by one of the food suppliers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This decision follows a recent journalistic investigation that uncovered the supply of low-quality foodstuff to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this regard, the Ministry of Defense initiated an audit of the supplier's activities.

The initial results from the inspection indicate that in August 2024, this contractor supplied sterilized canned stewed pork to a military unit in the Sumy region, accompanied by documents that appeared to be potentially forged. Specifically, the set of documents contained a duplicate of the test report that was annulled in February 2024.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reiterates its commitment to combat corruption and fraudulent activities that may threaten the safety of our military. In light of this, the Defence Ministry looks forward to a comprehensive investigation into the situation.

The Ministry of Defence urges all citizens and media representatives to report any instances of substandard product supplies or other potential violations that could negatively affect the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defence is dedicated to continue maintaining high standards for the foodstuff provided to the military, as well as supporting their health and well-being.

To recap, in 2025, the State Operator For Non-Lethal Acquisition (DOT), the acquisition agency of the Ministry of Defence, intends to test a new food supply model for the Armed Forces. It will start as a pilot project in several regions and the city of Kyiv. This initiative primarily aims to enhance foodstuff quality and streamline the acquisition process for greater efficiency.

The changes are related to the financial model for engaging with suppliers, the product arrangement, and the quality control. Specifically, all products will go through the distribution hub, where experts from DOT will conduct additional quality control.
