The CMU’s Resolution authorizes the disposal of explosives at demining locations, allowing the Defence Forces to use the resulting recycled materials
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allowed the disposal of ammunition and explosive devices using mobile complexes directly at demining sites. This will facilitate obtaining recycled materials that can be used for the needs of the Defence Forces.
Amendments to the Procedure for the Disposal of Missiles, Ammunition, and Explosive Substances are approved at a Government meeting. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence was responsible for developing the associated Resolution.
“Today, we have made considerable advancements in disposing of ammunition. The approved amendments establish a legal framework for recycling dangerous and unusable ammunition right at the locations where demining operations are conducted,” said Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
Disposal will be carried out by military units designated by the Ministry of Defence.
Ammunition and explosives will be disposed of, in particular, by incineration, ultrasonic crushing, melting, and burning off explosive substances from ammunition cases.
This will enable obtaining recycled materials that can be used for the needs of the Defence Forces.
According to approximate estimates, up to 20% of ammunition in combat zones fails to detonate. Roughly one-fifth of Ukraine’s land currently requires the clearance of unexploded ordnance.
