Sweden will finance the production of Ukrainian long-range drones using the 'Danish model’

The Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, paid a working visit to Sweden, where he held productive meetings with representatives of the Swedish government and defense industry.

During discussions with Swedish Minister for Defence Pål Jonson, it was agreed that Sweden will finance the production of Ukrainian long-range drones using the ‘Danish model’ approach.  The initiative focuses on funding through procuring products made in Ukraine, supporting the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

“This is another step toward strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities, demonstrating the trust our partners place in our military-industrial potential,” said Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

Furthermore, the parties talked about strategies for providing financial support to Ukraine in the year 2025. A particular emphasis was placed on providing Ukrainian Armed Forces units with military equipment. Rustem Umerov stated that negotiations regarding this aspect of cooperation are at the final stage.

In Stockholm, the Ukrainian Defense Minister also met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Rustem Umerov expressed gratitude to the Swedish people for their steadfast support of Ukraine and willingness to deepen bilateral cooperation further.

“For us, this is not just a matter of partnership but also of shared security,” Rustem Umerov emphasized.

Additionally, the Defence Minister engaged in discussions with representatives from Swedish defense sector companies. The meeting participants discussed the implementation of new projects related to the production of military equipment, including artillery, optics, guidance systems, means of communication, and air defense systems. 

Particular emphasis was placed on localizing production in Ukraine, establishing joint ventures, increasing supply volumes, and acquiring new weapons and advanced technologies.
