During a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format), Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met with Norway's Minister of Defence Tore Onshuus Sandvik. The Ukrainian defense minister congratulated the Norwegian counterpart on the appointment and stressed the significance of the role in the current security context.
The meeting included the presentation of Ukraine's 2025 Defence Strategy and a discussion on the critical needs of the Security and Defence Forces. Particular focus was placed on forming and equipping the ‘Nordic’ Brigade, with support expected from Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
Key priorities identified during the negotiations include the provision of interceptor missiles for air and missile defense systems. The ministers also discussed the potential for joint industrial projects, particularly ammunition production.
Ukraine has indicated its willingness to broaden collaboration in the defense sector and support partnerships between Ukrainian and Norwegian companies. Pursuing additional funding to address critical defense needs remains an essential priority.
“I expressed my gratitude to Norway for its significant support for Ukraine and its leadership in the Maritime Capability Coalition. We look forward to continued active cooperation and are confident that Ukraine will also be a reliable partner for our Norwegian friends,” said Rustem Umerov.
