State Special Transport Service becomes the first Ministry of Defence unit to introduce digital transformation specialist positions
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is accelerating the digital transformation of the Ukrainian military by introducing an IT vertical. This approach was initially unveiled in December at the Digital Defence Forum and is now entering the implementation stage.
Within the IT vertical, a structure of units and positions dedicated to digital development, digital transformation, and digitalization is being established.
The State Special Transport Service became the first Ministry of Defence unit to approve the new staffing structure and begin implementing it in practice. In January, the State Special Transport Service plans to establish 46 IT positions.
Digital transformation specialists will be introduced in phases at all levels—from battalion units to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. Their responsibilities will include:
- implementing digital systems at the unit level;
- gathering feedback and communicating real requirements;
- serving as customers and architects for new digital solutions;
- promoting an IT culture across the military.
These positions will subsequently be introduced in other branches and services, as well as within the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Vacancies for heads of strategic-level digital transformation units are already open. Further details and the opportunity to apply are available via the Ministry of Defence partner platform, Lobby X.
“Digital transformation specialists down to the battalion level will serve as our on-the-ground coordinators and experts. We want experienced professionals to serve in the military in roles that match their professional expertise,” said Oksana Ferchuk, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization.
