Serhii Melnyk: Improved meal provisions will be available to all defenders of Ukraine receiving care in medical facilities, regardless of the facility's ownership type
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has initiated significant changes to the medical treatment and rehabilitation system for military personnel.
The Cabinet of Ministers has enacted a Resolution to enhance the mechanism for providing better nutrition to service members in healthcare facilities of all forms of ownership.
The Resolution enables the provision of meals for defenders in line with the standards of military medical institutions in NATO countries, even in civilian hospitals.
“Every defender who risks their life for our freedom deserves the best possible conditions for recovery. We not only provide our military with essential care but also strive to ensure that every service member feels supported and respected. This initiative serves as our acknowledgment of their dedication and courage,” said Deputy Minister of Defence, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.
Under the new regulations, meals for military personnel in civilian hospitals will be provided based on a specially designed ration that specifies the list of foodstuff, their quantities, and the daily weight required for each service member, considering the body's specific needs during recovery.
“The new standards ensure the availability of nutritious options essential for a quick recovery. For example, these standards account for the increased need for proteins, vitamins, and calories necessary for treating injuries or illnesses.
The cost of such meals is calculated based on a dedicated Foodstuff Catalog approved by the Ministry of Defence. This Catalog lists the current prices for products, which are factored into the calculation of meal costs per bed-day in medical facilities,” explains Serhii Melnyk.
According to him, this ensures that each service member is provided with the proper ration to support a quick recovery.
The Resolution ratified by the Cabinet of Ministers establishes a transparent mechanism for compensating civilian healthcare facilities, which will help uphold high service quality.
The new funding model establishes a standard contract that guarantees transparent compensation for the costs of nutritional improvements. As a result, civilian medical facilities will receive proper funding, enabling service members to access enhanced treatment and recovery programs.
