Rustem Umerov: The SAFE instrument opens new opportunities for defense projects in Ukraine and the EU

European Union countries have approved the establishment of the SAFE (Security Assistance for Europe) defense instrument with a budget of EUR 150 billion.

“This decision lays the foundation for a new security system on the continent — one in which Ukraine holds official partner status,” stated Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

“SAFE opens new opportunities for joint defense projects, large-scale investments, and the development of Europe’s industrial potential. And, most importantly, it recognizes Ukraine’s defense industry as part of the future European security system,” emphasized the Minister of Defence.

Ukraine has already proven its capability to develop solutions that change the rules of the battlefield. Ukraine stands ready to share its experience to help make Europe stronger together.

As part of these efforts, Ukraine, alongside European allies, will engage in large-scale projects within the SAFE framework, particularly in joint procurement.

“I thank the European Union, our friends, and allies for their leadership and support. SAFE is a shared investment in the peace and strength of all Europe,” concluded Rustem Umerov.
