Rustem Umerov: Support for Ukraine continues to be one of the European Union's foremost priorities

The Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, held a phone conversation with the newly appointed EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius.

The Minister of Defence of Ukraine extended congratulations to Mr. Kubilius on his appointment to the newly established position, which, for the first time in the history of the European Commission, combines the responsibilities for defense policy and the advancement of space technologies.

“This is a landmark step for Europe, confirming its commitment to adapting to contemporary security challenges. It is a great honor for me that our conversation was first for Mr. Kubilius in his new position,” said Rustem Umerov.

The parties discussed the creation of the European Defense White Paper, a strategic document aimed at fortifying the EU's preparedness to address security challenges. Ukraine also participated in developing the document, offering proposals on how to strengthen military and defense support both at the current stage and in the medium- to long-term future.

During the conversation, particular attention was given to the current situation at the frontline. The Minister of Defence of Ukraine briefed the Commissioner on the key requirements of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, particularly regarding the training and equipping of brigades, enhancing air defense, ensuring the provision of artillery and ammunition, as well as advancing the development of Ukraine's defense industry.

Rustem Umerov also extended an invitation to Andrius Kubilius to visit Ukraine on a working visit.

“Ahead lies ambitious and fruitful cooperation aimed at achieving a just peace for Ukraine and Europe,” emphasized the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
