Research on FPV application and training initiatives for DELTA and Kropyva: initial achievements of the Ministry of Defence's new division

Дослідження застосування FPV, навчальні програми для DELTA та Кропиви: перші успіхи нового підрозділу Міноборони

Established earlier this year, the Division of Robotic Operations Excellence within the MoD’s Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies has already achieved several significant milestones in robotics and IT systems. The Division is also actively studying the application of these technologies on the battlefield.

Throughout this period, the specialists within the Division have achieved the following:

• Undertook 10 field research initiatives to analyze the combat experience related to robotic systems, featuring the utilization of FPV drones alongside VR and AR simulation technologies;

• Formulated recommendations for training operators of UAVs and robotic systems within Defense Forces units;

• Developed training programs for the DELTA and Kropyva combat systems and for setting up the Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform;

• Have created and are constantly updating the Catalog of Ground Robotic Systems and the Catalog of Military Simulators and Training Devices;

• Contributed to the practical enforcement of general cyber hygiene rules in the Armed Forces;

• Trained over 3000 service members who are now applying these skills on the front line.

In general, the Division's specialists implement projects across four main areas: Training and education, gathering and analyzing combat experience, developing and testing concepts, and formulating doctrines and standards. The Division was established as a prototype of the Center of Excellence of Robotic Operations (COE RO).

Contemporary warfare demands up-to-date expertise to achieve an asymmetric advantage on the front line. The Division of Robotic Operations Excellence will contribute to establishing this advantage. Insights and advice from field experts will not only help to improve the effectiveness of systems and technologies but also lead to the formulation of new approaches to repel russian invaders,” said Kateryna Chernohorenko, Deputy Minister of Defence for Digital Development.

Personnel from the Division are actively involved in educating Ukrainian service members on the effective use of information and robotic systems to defend the country. Experts from the Division of Robotic Operations Excellence are encouraging manufacturers of robotic systems to jointly develop and implement innovative solutions on the battlefield.
