Partner countries transferring military technologies and inventors in the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive intellectual property protection — Ministry of Defense
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is developing regulatory frameworks and platforms to protect intellectual property. This was announced by Illia Kostin, Head of the Intellectual Property Division at the Main Directorate of Military Justice.
At the IP UKRAINE NOW 2024 event, he shared that the Ministry has already started rebuilding the intellectual property system, which had been dismantled. In November, the MoD plans to approve relevant regulations, and by January 2025, establish a dedicated department. A "Single Window" service for inventors in the AFU will also begin operations in the first quarter of next year.
"Simultaneously, we are conducting an inventory of intellectual property objects. This enables the Ministry not only to register inventions, utility models, industrial designs, and trademarks for goods and services, but also to protect its rights. For instance, we appealed to the Appeals Chamber of the Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation to cancel a patent that had been improperly obtained by a private individual for military uniforms," said Illia Kostin.
IP UKRAINE NOW is an annual event organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association, focusing on current issues in IP law. The UBA is one of the most respected legal organizations in the country.
