Over a million summer field suits have been contracted for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: how their quality will be verified

The Ministry of Defence continues to refine the quality requirements for gear and clothing items to enhance the comfort and protection of personnel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ministry has developed and approved inspection scopes for two types of summer field suits (Type 1 and Type 2) designated for Ukraine’s defenders.

“The State Operator for Non-Lethal Acquisition (DOT), the Ministry of Defence’s procurement agency, has contracted over one million sets of summer field suits for 2025. The Ministry is dedicated not only to providing our service members with the necessary uniforms and gear items but also to ensuring that their quality meets modern standards,” stated Glib Kanievskyi, Director of the Procurement Policy Department of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. 

Defining the scope of the inspections is a crucial step in quality control and ensuring the suits' compliance with approved technical specifications.

The inspection process encompasses a comprehensive range of criteria, including:

• The quality of the fabric: raw material composition, density, weave pattern, wear resistance, tensile strength, breathability, and water-repellent properties.
• Resistance to external factors: testing colorfastness during washing, as well as resistance to sweat, friction, sunlight exposure, and detergents.
• Performance characteristics: evaluation of seam strength, hardware durability (including zippers and textile fasteners), and their resilience to repeated use and washing.
• Fire-resistant properties: examination of flame spread characteristics for specific fabric types.
• Dimensional accuracy and labeling: verification of sizing conformity and accuracy of product labeling.

Particular emphasis has been placed on the quality control of components, such as textile fasteners and zippers, focusing on their durability, ease of fastening and unfastening, resistance to delamination, and retention of functional properties after repeated use and washing.
