Over 50,000 video streams monthly: Yurii Myronenko highlights use of AI in warfare

Понад 50 000 відеострімів щомісяця: Юрій Мироненко розповів про застосування штучного інтелекту на війні

Yurii Myronenko, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, presented key achievements and plans for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the defense sector. The presentation took place at the Defense Tech Valley 2025 summit in Lviv.

According to Yurii Myronenko, Ukraine has collected and is already employing on the battlefield a unique combat dataset — a structured body of data for training AI in the defense sector.

“Fixed-wing drones operating along the front line generate over 50,000 video streams each month, enabling the precise identification of enemy equipment and positions. This has been made possible through the use of AI and a unique, verified dataset that is updated daily with thousands of videos from diverse sources. These videos are being continuously annotated by a dedicated team of specialists,” said Yurii Myronenko.

He noted that discussions are currently underway on granting foreign companies access to this dataset for training their own models.

According to the Deputy Minister, AI is used not only for analyzing visual data but also for processing radar inputs, artillery information, acoustic signals, intelligence reports, and historical records.

Regarding other AI initiatives, Yurii Myronenko said that plans include enhancing UAV autonomy, extending their operational range, and scaling up these efforts.

In addition, the Deputy Minister reported on the development of a regulatory framework that will provide a simplified authorization procedure for testing manufacturers’ AI solutions on the battlefield.
