MoD and General Staff of the AFU have developed a guide for released prisoners of war

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Central Directorate for Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine jointly developed a guide for released prisoners of war (POWs). The guide is divided into four main sections:

  • Psychological support;
  • Document restoration;
  • Receiving payments;
  • Medical treatment

The information aims to support former POWs by providing step-by-step guidance on reinstating financial payments and documents, reinstating social entitlements, and accessing legal, medical, and psychological care.

“We have created clear and concise cards to provide released prisoners step-by-step instructions during reintegration activities. The detailed and clear information outlines how to complete medical examinations, get treatment, reinstate payments, and obtain social support. The guide also includes contact details for volunteer and public organizations offering legal, medical, and psychological assistance. This brochure will also be useful for Support Services representatives who continuously assist former prisoners of war on their journey back to normal life,” said Colonel Oleksandr Kutkov, Head of the Central Directorate for Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Printed copies of the guide will be distributed to service members immediately after their release from captivity. The electronic version is available at this link.
