The main objective of the pilot project is to create an effective rehabilitation space with the participation of civilian and military health facilities, social services and local governments. To achieve this, the rehabilitation process in the health sector must pass through a reform phase.

This was discussed at a constituent meeting of the interdepartmental working group attended by Nataliia Kalmykova, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Vadym Svyrydenko, Advisor to the Presidential Commissioner for Combatant Rehabilitation, Taras Tarasenko, Member of Ukrainian Parliament, representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Medical Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, regional military administrations and local governments.

Priority tasks include unification of standards and protocols, end-to-end monitoring, and control of results. There are also plans to create centres of excellence - institutions that will take the lead in rehabilitation.

The reform process also includes the creation of an effective patient pathway based on the prognosis of further treatment and rehabilitation, as well as the identification of specialized institutions according to the characteristics of injuries and diseases.

"Creating a unified rehabilitation space is a global task that requires close cooperation between state and regional authorities, as well as local self-government. In the near future we need to test the system's capabilities, identify challenges and create a transparent, efficient and user-friendly rehabilitation system," said Nataliia Kalmykova, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
