Since February 2022, the Ministry of Defence has adopted almost 20 models of grenade launchers for use in the Armed Forces

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and adopted almost 20 grenade launchers for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the russia’s full-scale invasion. Approximately one-third of these are produced domestically.

Foreign models include grenade launchers manufactured by US, German, Turkish, Canadian, and Swedish defense concerns.

The combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been enhanced by under-barrel, hand-held, automatic, and multi-shot semi-automatic grenade launchers of various calibers. The majority of these models are 40mm caliber weapon systems. However, there are also more powerful 84mm caliber grenade launchers, namely the Swedish-made Carl Gustaf grenade launcher.

The Carl Gustaf grenade launcher fires high-explosive shaped charge, blast fragmentation, thermobaric, anti-fortification, smoke, and illumination ammunition. It is a versatile and effective weapon that can be used against enemy armored vehicles and group targets.

Reference information: According to the Main Department of Support for the Lifecycle of Weapons and Military Equipment, the procedure for obtaining a NATO nomenclature code for a new model of weapons or military equipment has been reduced to 10 days.

If codified and included in the table of organization and equipment of military units, a model of domestically produced weapons or military equipment is allowed to be purchased at the expense of the state budget and used in the Armed Forces.
