Military Support Service has been established in Ukraine as per the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers
The procedure endorsed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine governs the operations and functions of military support services dedicated to providing social assistance to defenders and their families. The Resolution in question named “Some Aspects of the Implementation of the Support Service for Military Personnel, Enlisted and Senior Staff of Civil Protection Service, Police Officers, and Family Members of Those,” developed by the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was adopted today at a Government meeting and is already being implemented.
Thus, support services will be established in military command and control structures, military units, and military training centers and entities.
These services will cater to the needs of military personnel, enlisted and senior staff of the Civil Protection Service, police officers, and families of those.
Support services will be established on the basis of structural units responsible for social protection, or through staff positions in the relevant areas of activities. If needed, personnel from different departments may assist with the support service duties.
“The number of personnel in the Armed Forces has increased many times over since the commencement of the full-scale invasion. A large number of civilians without prior army experience have joined the military. They all require assistance with the pressing challenges they encounter while serving. This is why we are developing an innovative new service, designed to provide military personnel timely and high-quality assistance. The support services will be available in all military units and will be responsible for addressing matters pertaining to this area exclusively. They will deal not only with active service members but also with family members of the killed, missing, and captured,” said Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Nataliia Kalmykova.
The primary role of the support services will be assistance to military personnel in dealing with various social and medical issues, including the following:
- Supporting the wounded by assisting them with referrals, guiding them through military-medical and medical-social commissions, and keeping in contact with their relatives.
- Supporting and guiding family members of the deceased, missing, and prisoners of war in securing their entitled benefits and guarantees.
- Support compiling the required paperwork to acquire certificates confirming their entitlement to benefits and compensations.
- Participation in support activities for those leaving the service.
Authorized persons in support services will be pinpointing and evaluating the social needs of military personnel, as well as clarifying information from health facilities concerning the needs of the wounded and sick. They will also provide all the necessary consultations and ensure feedback with social service providers to address the current military personnel issues.
