Military personnel can enroll in an online course on gender equality

On March 26, the free, certified course titled “Equality between Women and Men in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Policy and Practice,” developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, will be launched on the Prometheus online platform.

The objective of the course is to equip participants with the knowledge and practical tools necessary to implement gender equality policies within the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with international standards, particularly those of NATO, as well as best practices from the United Nations and partner countries.

“One of the Ministry of Defence’s primary objectives is the development of human capital within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This course will facilitate equal opportunities, enhance the effectiveness of teamwork, and introduce a unit-level approach that accounts for the interests of every service member. Online courses represent a modern and convenient mechanism for deepening knowledge in the domains of human rights and obtaining a corresponding certificate,” stated Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.

The course comprises 10 modules, covering Ukrainian and international legislation related to human rights and gender issues, as well as communication strategies and approaches to preventing violence and discrimination. The training materials include video lectures, animated videos, and self-assessment tests.

The course is implemented under the Canadian Government’s PROTECT2 project, which aims to support reforms in Ukraine’s security and defense sector. Experts from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the National Defence University of Ukraine participated in the development of the course.

The training is free and open to all interested individuals. The primary target audience includes gender advisors, unit commanders at all levels, and cadets of higher military educational institutions.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an electronic certificate issued by the National Defence University of Ukraine and the PROTECT2 project.
