Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk: Sanctions against russia must be tougher

A team from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine met with an EU delegation headed by Matti Maasikas, Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service.
A representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence briefed the partners on the current situation at the front and delivered a detailed briefing on russia’s plans and the expansion of its defense industry.
An important item on the agenda was the impact of the sanctions imposed on the aggressor and the results of their monitoring. According to the First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, a significant number of components manufactured in Western countries are still present in russian missiles that have been shot down.
“We understand the scheme through which the enemy acquires these components via third countries. To prevent this, sanctions must be strengthened. The countries that imposed sanctions against russia must exercise control and ensure effective monitoring of their implementation,” underlined Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk.
The parties also discussed the current status of joint projects, Ukraine’s participation in the SAFE initiative, and the ‘Build with Ukraine’ program, which will enable partners to access Ukrainian technologies in the future.
Another topic of discussion concerned the need to finance Ukraine’s defense industry. A representative of the European External Action Service stressed that, in line with the statement of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Ukraine will receive €6 billion by the end of the year for drone production.
