Joint Swedish-Ukrainian Strategic Leadership Course (SLC) in Security and Defence Sector presented at the Ministry of Defence

The Strategic Leadership Course (SLC) for Security and Defense Sector representatives was created through collaboration between the National Defence University of Ukraine and the Swedish Defence University, with the assistance of the MoD’s Department of Military Education and Science and the NATO Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP).

The SLC course aims to build an educational environment for leaders who will be ambassadors of change, leveraging existing experience along with analytical tools and mechanisms for developing strategic decision-making amidst pressure and uncertainty.

“Through collaborations with our Swedish partners and support from the NATO DEEP Programme, we successfully developed a Strategic Leadership Course in English. Attaining the highest position within the hierarchy of L-1 to L-5 professional training courses, this course will finalize the establishment of a professional military education system that meets NATO standards,” emphasized Volodymyr Mirnenko, Head of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

According to him, the course enables the comprehensive organization of professional education and career development training for leadership and specialists of central and local executive authorities, as well as Commands of the Security and Defence Sector components.

The training sessions are planned to be a mix of online and offline components in Ukraine and abroad. Besides their academic modules and intensive training, students will visit EU and NATO structures to gain insights into how work processes and linkages are established and to exchange knowledge and experiences.

It is foreseen that the SLC Course will achieve NATO certification and be accessible to the entire European and Euro-Atlantic community.

The presentation of the Strategic Leadership Course (SLC) in Security and Defence Sector was attended by Camilla Unsgaard, Head of International programme at CTSS/Swedish Defence University (SLC Course Coordinator), Volodymyr Mirnenko, Head of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Major General Oleh Shynkaruk, Head of the “Leadership Coaching” Institute of Professional Military Education of the National Defence University of Ukraine, and Lieutenant Colonel Stasys Paldunas (Republic of Lithuania).
