JATEC seeks to expand the “Captains' Training” professional military education course

Brigadier General Wojciech Ozga, Commander of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC), visited the “Captains’ Training” course. 

The visit was conducted as part of the JATEC Senior Supervisory Board meeting. Brigadier General Wojciech Ozga discussed with the course leaders the prospects for scaling up the course within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC) program. This initiative will contribute to achieving interoperability with NATO in terms of military education and training standards.

“The 'Captains’ Training' course is a vital project delivering accelerated, high-quality training for tactical-level combat officers in line with NATO methodologies. Its unique feature lies in the adaptability of the training program, which adjusts to real-world combat experience and evolving operational challenges. Scaling up this course is crucial for advancing military education,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Defence Yevhen Moisiuk.

During the visit, Colonel Oleksii Siroshtan, Head of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, briefed the JATEC delegation on the training processes, teaching methodologies, and the integration of combat experience into the curriculum. Drawing on their extensive combat experience, the course instructors discussed the specifics of training future tactical commanders and staff officers. 

“This professional military education course demonstrates how Ukraine's combat experience shapes a new generation of leaders capable of operating according to NATO standards. Supporting and scaling up such initiatives is crucial for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and deepening our cooperation,” emphasized Brigadier General Wojciech Ozga, Commander of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Centre (JATEC).

This professional military education course is being conducted at the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and is supported by the “Come Back Alive” Foundation.
