Interceptor and loitering munition: what makes Ukraine's new TALION unmanned aerial system unique

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and authorized the domestically produced TALION unmanned aerial system (UAS) for operational use by the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
It can operate as both an interceptor and a loitering munition (commonly referred to as a "kamikaze" drone).
TALION UAS operating modes
The system is primarily designed to operate as a loitering munition for intercepting enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
An operator can pilot the UAS in either manual or semi-autonomous mode.
Beyond conducting air defense ("lower-tier air defense") missions, the TALION UAS can also engage ground targets and perform other tactical missions as a strike drone, making it a more versatile system.
TALION UAS's combat capabilities as an interceptor
The system is capable of operating at both low and high altitudes. This enables it to engage virtually all types of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Its extended endurance also allows it to conduct patrol and reconnaissance missions.
By combining the roles of an aerial interceptor and a conventional loitering munition, the TALION UAS will enhance Ukrainian units' capabilities to counter enemy unmanned aerial systems while delivering highly accurate strikes against targets at tactical depth.
