In May, Ministry of Defence demining specialists cleared over 7,800 hectares of land

Throughout May 2025, mine clearance units of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine cleared 7,847 hectares of land of explosive ordnance in areas previously liberated from russian occupation.

Specifically, during the month, the following was cleared:

  • 7,660.21 hectares of agricultural land;
  • 21.27 km of roadways;
  • 9.44 km of electric power lines;
  • 40.24 km of railways;
  • 5.94 km of pipelines;
  • 0.88 hectares of residential areas.

Throughout the month, sappers uncovered and neutralized 6,818 explosive devices. Since the onset of russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, a total of 445,680 explosive items have been neutralized.

As of the end of May, 87 mine action operators have been certified in Ukraine.

As a reminder, units from the following entities are involved in operations to clear explosive remnants of war from de-occupied areas:

  • Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • State Transport Special Service;
  • Explosive ordnance disposal units of the National Police of Ukraine;
  • Pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Humanitarian demining in Ukraine is exclusively carried out by mine action operators, as mandated by the Law of Ukraine on "Mine Action in Ukraine.”
