In 2024, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine supplied the military with footwear valued at over UAH 3.1 billion

In 2024, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine implemented a large-scale plan to equip service members with essential footwear, procuring and delivering various footwear models worth over UAH 3.1 billion.

The main categories of footwear that were supplied:

• Summer boots valued at over UAH 1.5 billion
• High-top winter boots valued at over UAH 1.1 billion.
• Other types of footwear valued at approximately UAH 0.5 billion. 

Two manufacturers also received certificates of conformity for summer boots and three for winter high-top boots.

“One of the Ministry of Defence's objectives is to provide our service members with high-quality footwear. Expanding the number of manufacturers and approving new reference samples promotes healthy competition, optimization of state budget expenditures, and market-based distribution of orders among manufacturers, which allows for timely delivery of footwear to military units,” explained Glib Kanevskyi, Director of the Defence Ministry's Procurement Policy Department.

It is important to note that the MoD’s Main Directorate of Logistics Support Development is dedicated to the ongoing improvement of supply quality, including footwear. 

As part of these efforts, the Collegial Body on the Development of Logistics Support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has commenced its work at the Ministry of Defence. It includes representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence's procurement agency (DOT), civil society, and others. The Collegial Body focuses on developing, reviewing, and approving technical documentation for non-lethal assets.

Work is also underway to improve special footwear's tactical and technical characteristics, including updates to the technical specifications for sneakers.
