Government has increased stipends for cadets of higher military educational institutions
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution, developed by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, to increase monetary allowances for cadets of higher military educational institutions, military training units of higher education institutions, and professional pre-higher military education institutions.
This resolution takes effect from March 1, 2025.
“The increase in monetary allowances fulfills an initiative announced by the President of Ukraine during a personal meeting with cadets. The Armed Forces of Ukraine hold the highest level of trust within Ukrainian society, exceeding 90%. We must strengthen this immense support base, including through the development of military education. Our future officers deserve not only high-quality knowledge and training but also confidence in their future. And this is just one aspect of the comprehensive reforms in higher military education being carried out by the Ministry of Defence,” stated Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.
According to the Deputy Minister, the increase in monetary allowances is anticipated to boost interest among young Ukrainians in pursuing education at higher military institutions, followed by military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the Defence Forces.
Currently, cadets receive monetary allowances ranging from UAH 2,880 to UAH 3,145. Following the resolution’s enactment, cadets will receive allowances of approximately UAH 8,000. It should be noted that cadets in their final year who receive only 'excellent' grades in their latest examination session, as well as other cadets during their military internship in the final year, will receive monetary allowances equivalent to the service remuneration of contract service members. In the Armed Forces of Ukraine, such service remuneration amounts to UAH 20,100.
The increase will occur through an adjustment of base pay and the establishment of allowances, particularly based on the outcomes of the examination sessions. These payments will be financed from the State Budget of Ukraine.
