Glib Kanievskyi: In 2025, the Ministry of Defence plans to procure 4.5 million FPV drones
For the past three years, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has been and remains the largest procurer of drones in Ukraine. The quantity of unmanned aerial vehicles delivered to units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has increased substantially.
“In 2023, the Ministry of Defence procured thousands of drones, whereas by the end of 2024, we, together with the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, procured over 1.5 million drones,” said Glib Kanievskyi, Director of the Procurement Policy Department of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
According to him, 96% of this amount was paid to Ukrainian manufacturers and suppliers. This had a positive impact on the development of Ukraine’s UAV industry.
“This year, the numbers will be even higher, as the capacity of Ukraine’s defense industry in 2025 is approximately 4.5 million FPV drones. And the Ministry of Defence plans to procure all of them,” emphasized Glib Kanievskyi.
This year, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine will allocate over UAH 110 billion for the procurement of drones, including more than UAH 102 billion through the Defence Procurement Agency (DPA).
According to Glib Kanievskyi, all procurement plans for 2025 have been allocated budget funds. This will enable the front line to be supplied with unmanned aerial vehicles as quickly as possible.
He also added that the production of drones at one of the state-owned enterprises, which the Ministry of Defence announced in January this year, will positively impact competition. The minimum mark-up and control by the Ministry at all stages of production may encourage other manufacturers and suppliers to lower prices.
