Gender considerations in the context of mine action were addressed by officials from the Ministry of Defence

Delegates from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine attended an international conference addressing gender matters in the context of mine action.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, in collaboration with the OSCE, hosted an event where representatives of the MoD’s Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety stressed the importance of an equitable approach to mine action. In particular, all individuals, regardless of gender, are eligible to participate in mine clearance activities, provided they fulfill the military service requirements.

According to MoD representatives, the territories directly impacted by russian aggression cover nearly 156,000 square kilometers, posing a threat to over 6 million Ukrainians.

That is why, they highlighted, involving as many experts as possible to mine action efforts is essential.

In addition to Ministry of Defence representatives, the discussion involved experts from other central governmental agencies, international organizations, and specialists in mine action. Following the workshop, there are intentions to formulate suggestions on integrating gender considerations into the activities of mine action entities.
