Evidence of Western technologies found in russian weaponry has been provided by Ukraine to the US to bolster sanctions
Ukrainian military experts have presented their American counterparts with compelling evidence of Western electronic components being used in russian weapons targeting civilian infrastructure.
The Main Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, in collaboration with the MoD Technical Inspectorate, has developed structured cooperation with the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Defense. Regular meetings between the parties focus on monitoring security assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and shaping sanctions policies targeting foreign companies whose products have been identified in russian weaponry.
During the meeting, representatives from the Ukrainian Armed Forces research institution provided the Defense Criminal Investigative Service of the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Defense with a detailed analysis of imported electronics found in Russian weaponry. Specifically, the discussion focused on russian reconnaissance UAVs of the Orlan-10 type, which were found to contain foreign components, including:
guidance systems
navigation modules
control units
computing devices
The Ukrainian side provided comprehensive information on the components, including photographs, serial numbers, countries of origin, and the names of manufacturing companies, confirming the systematic use of Western technologies in the production of russian military equipment. The U.S. representatives expressed significant interest in the materials provided.
The U.S. representatives also underscored the importance of such meetings and deepened cooperation under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the inspection services of the defense departments of the United States and Ukraine. Representatives of the U.S. Department of Defense's Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Defense added that this should lay the groundwork for intensifying sanctions pressure and cutting off supply channels for electronic products that may be used in war crimes.
“russia is effectively using the products of Western electronics manufacturers to commit war crimes, violate international law, and conduct terrorist strikes against the civilian population and critical infrastructure of Ukraine. Revealing the supply chains of sanctioned goods, from manufacturers to those who carry out killings, is a responsibility for all democratic nations,” said Colonel Oleh Lavrov, Deputy Head of the Technical Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
