Enhancing defense capabilities through dialogue with think tanks was a focal point of the meeting at the Ministry of Defence

Deputy Defence Ministers of Ukraine Stanislav Haider and Oleksandr Balanutsa met in Kyiv with a delegation from the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) led by Kimberly Kagan, ISW President, and Frederick Kagan, Director of American Enterprise Institute's Critical Threats Project.

“I am genuinely grateful for the fruitful collaboration. It is my strong conviction that the dialogue between the Ministry of Defence and think tanks is not just important, but also required, for the further development of our defense capabilities,” said Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Stanislav Haider.

In his opinion, working collectively aids in discovering new solutions, introducing innovations, and enhancing strategic approaches.

The Ukrainian delegation briefed their American counterparts on the achievements in institutional reform within the Ministry of Defence and provided updates on the current security situation in Ukraine and along its borders.

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European integration Oleksandr Balanutsa thanked the Institute for the Study of War for its global role in shedding light on the reality during the russian aggression against Ukraine.

“The Institute for the Study of War has become an important analytical platform since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. International media cite Institute’s reports, and this helps Ukraine effectively counter russian propaganda,” Oleksandr Balanutsa mentioned.

He further stated that that ISW frequently refutes the kremlin's disinformation that russia is attempting to enforce globally. According to the Deputy Minister, independent analytical reports help Ukraine to deepen cooperation with partners and secure more aid.
