During 2024, military sappers cleared more than 252,000 hectares of land from mines and ordnance

In 2024, the demining units of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine cleared 252,823.23 hectares of land from explosive ordnance, with the majority (232,105.76 hectares) being agricultural land.

Specialists also carried out demining of:

  • 538.64 km of roads;

  • 163.26 km of electric power lines;

  • 444.94 km of railways;

  • 52.41 km of pipelines;

  • 178.49 hectares of residential areas;

  • 37 hectares of water bodies.

Throughout the year, sappers uncovered and neutralized 137,821 hazardous items. Since the onset of russia's full-scale invasion, the total number of defused munitions has reached 416,877.

In 2024, 48 new operators were granted demining licenses, bringing the total number of certified organizations to 72. They are authorized to conduct humanitarian demining in areas where combat operations are not occurring.

Humanitarian demining in Ukraine is exclusively carried out by mine action operators, as mandated by the Law of Ukraine on "Mine Action in Ukraine.

According to the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is deploying mine clearance units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service to clear the de-occupied territories of explosive ordnance.
