Denys Shmyhal: Ukraine stands ready to participate in the ‘Drone Wall’ project

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Denys Shmyhal, participated in a meeting that brought together EU Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, defence ministers from Denmark, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and Bulgaria, as well as NATO representatives.

During the discussion, Denys Shmyhal emphasised that Ukraine is ready to participate in the ‘Drone Wall’ project. 

“We are already determined and capable of playing an active role in protecting Europe from the russian drone threats. During the conversation, we focused on the specific steps toward implementing this project initiated by the European Commission. The ‘Drone Wall’ will establish a fundamentally new defence ecosystem in Europe, of which Ukraine stands ready to be a part. Together with our allies, we will coordinate efforts to counter russia’s provocations in the air and implement the most effective solutions,” stated the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

Denys Shmyhal added that Ukraine anticipates signing the relevant declaration with its partners in October. For its part, Ukraine stands ready to dispatch technical teams to train groups that will form part of the ‘Drone Wall.’

“Ukraine is a recognised leader in unmanned technologies. We are ready to share our experience in downing russian drones with the EU, NATO, and neighbouring countries, said the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the participation of Ukrainian manufacturers in the project, as Ukraine has innovative solutions that have been tested in practice.  

“The aggressor has already carried out deliberate provocations against Denmark, Poland, and the Baltic states. The EU must be prepared to respond decisively to such escalation, and Ukraine’s role in this is key,” emphasised Denys Shmyhal.

He expressed gratitude to the European Commission for convening the discussion and to the participants for their commitment to unite efforts in safeguarding the European continent.
