Denys Shmyhal discusses military support for Ukraine with the Ministers of Defence of Latvia and Spain

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal held talks with Latvia’s Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds and Spain’s Minister of Defence Margarita Robles.

“We are strengthening military support for Ukraine from our European partners. We discussed with Latvian Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds the needs of the Defence Forces, joint drone production for Ukraine, and the outcomes of the latest Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting,” said the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Latvia for its contribution to strengthening defense capabilities, including the transfer of UAVs to the Defence Forces and the recent decision to provide 42 Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers. 

“The first batch has already been delivered to Ukraine. We agreed on the next steps in our cooperation, including intensifying our dialogue with the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries,” noted the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

During talks with Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles, Denys Shmyhal discussed ways to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities on land, at sea, and in the air. According to him, the relevant agreements are currently being prepared.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Spain for its essential contribution to supporting our country, particularly in protecting the skies from russian shelling. 

“We are also grateful for the training and medical treatment provided to Ukrainian service members. We will continue our fruitful cooperation for the sake of security and peace,” concluded the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
