Denys Shmyhal discussed cooperation plans with world’s leading defence companies

At the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition in London, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal held talks with representatives of leading global defence companies on cooperation plans.

Particular attention was paid to innovative solutions in the field of air defence.

  • Denys Shmyhal discussed with Ralf Ketzel, Executive Director of KNDS Deutschland, the implementation of joint agreements on the supply, technical support, and joint production of Gepard air defence systems. The discussion focused on the operation of a joint venture that KNDS is launching in partnership with a major Ukrainian manufacturer.
  • At a meeting with representatives of the U.S. company Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of HIMARS missiles, ATACMS missiles, and F-16 aircraft, the parties explored opportunities for cooperation on key arms and the potential for industrial collaboration with Ukrainian companies.
  • With the delegation from Thales, Denys Shmyhal discussed the main areas of the joint venture’s operation and opportunities to expand cooperation in joint production.
  • During the meeting with the MBDA delegation, the parties discussed ways to supply Ukrainian forces with missiles, including ASRAAM and Storm Shadow.
  • Negotiations with representatives of BAE Systems focused on further developing cooperation in the repair of armoured vehicles, including Abrams tanks and CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.
  • At a meeting with the Kongsberg delegation, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation on the supply of new NASAMS air defence systems and their associated missiles.
  • With representatives of Northrop Grumman, Denys Shmyhal discussed prospects for the localisation and joint production of ammunition in various calibres.

“I was also pleased to see the exhibition stands of Ukrainian manufacturers, some of which are already establishing partnerships with UK companies and collaborating on the development of new products for the Ukrainian military,” said Denys Shmyhal.
