Denys Shmyhal appointed as Ukraine’s new Minister of Defence

The candidacy of Denys Shmyhal for Minister of Defence was approved by 267 MPs of the Verkhovna Rada.
In his address from the parliamentary tribune, Minister Shmyhal outlined three key areas of focus:
- People The Ukrainian soldier remains at the core of our defense efforts. Our mission is to provide high-quality supplies, timely payments, reliable equipment, modern communication systems, and adequate medical support.
- Weapons We must build up our armaments to a level that will shatter the enemy’s capacity to fight. The top priority is Ukrainian domestic production. The President has set the goal to raise the share of domestically produced weapons on the frontline from 40% to 50% within six months. Concurrently, we are enhancing coordination with partners and building the Coalition of Capabilities.
- Systemic Efficiency The Ministry must work efficiently, without delays, unnecessary bureaucracy, or overlapping responsibilities. We prioritize speed and agility in our decision-making process.
“I am confident our joint efforts will achieve decisive results. We will build a force capable of restoring peace and preventing future aggression,” emphasized the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
