‘Contract 18–24’: list of AFU units and established posts for unmanned systems operators approved

The list specifying the Armed Forces of Ukraine units and established posts for unmanned systems operators where volunteers may serve under ‘Contract 18–24’ has been approved.

The pertinent orders were signed by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Eligible citizens may now serve under this type of contract in one of forty-six units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

These include, in particular, the 414th Separate Brigade of Strike Unmanned Aerial Systems ‘Madyar’s Birds’, the 20th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems ‘K-2’, the 427th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems ‘Rarog’, the 429th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems ‘ACHILLES’, among others.

The units of the forces and branches of service that have already participated in the project (the Land Forces, the Navy, the Air Assault Forces, the Unmanned Systems Forces, and the Territorial Defense Forces) have now been joined by units of the Special Operations Forces and the Support Forces.

A complete list of units participating in the project, along with the option to apply, is available on the project’s website

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has also approved, by its decision, a list of 32 established posts related to the operation of unmanned systems. These include:

  • Operator of tracked/wheeled ground robotic systems;
  • Operator of combat engineer ground robotic systems;
  • Operator of combat and special-purpose fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs);
  • Operator of combat and special-purpose multirotor unmanned aerial systems (UAS);
  • Operator of FPV drones;
  • Operator-maintainer of unmanned aerial systems (UAS);
  • Reconnaissance operator of unmanned aerial systems (UAS);
  • Technician of unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

As a reminder, on July 30, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine endorsed the Ministry of Defence’s initiative to expand the experimental ‘Contract 18–24’ project. The project will now extend to established posts associated with the operation of unmanned systems. A dedicated two-year contract form has been approved for citizens under 25 wishing to serve in the military in these specialties.
