Cold weather protection: The Ministry of Defence will continue to provide the military with heating kits

For the third consecutive season, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence is equipping service members with modern, effective individual heating systems designed to provide rapid warmth in cold-weather field conditions.

Last year, the Defense Ministry's acquisition agency, DOT, procured 500,000 heating kits of two types. Following their proven reliability during cold weather, a decision was made to procure the same number of kits again this year before the onset of the cold season.

“Modern individual heating systems deliver immediate warmth and comfort where they are most needed. In 2025, the DOT has already contracted 300,000 such kits and plans to procure an additional 200,000,” said Glib Kanievskyi, Director of the Procurement Policy Department at the Ministry of Defence.

Composition of individual heating systems

The individual heating kit includes chemical heating pads that provide localized warmth to specific body areas (two pads each for the torso, hands, and feet). These pads function through an exothermic reaction, where contact with air initiates oxidation that releases heat. Thanks to specialized components, the pads maintain a stable heating temperature and offer prolonged performance.

Individual heating systems are available in both disposable and reusable variants.

Technical and Quality Specifications

Individual heating systems comply with the Ministry of Defence's technical specification TS A01XJ.13995-441:2023 (01). The key features and specifications are as follows:

  • Quick initiation of the heating process after activation
  • Consistent heating temperature maintained within the defined range (40°C to 50°C)
  • Extended heat retention for at least six hours
  • Non-toxic and safe ingredients
  • Compact size, convenient for transport and use
  • Resilience to mechanical impact and moisture

Heating systems are required to be certified and must comply with safety standards to ensure comfort and reliability when used in field conditions.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine remains committed to equipping our defenders with high-quality, safe, and effective assets to maintain combat readiness and health in challenging environments.
