Automatic military registration: what to do in case of data errors
Ukraine has a mechanism that allows citizens to be automatically registered for military service without visiting enlistment offices. This became possible following amendments to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 932. Registration is carried out through the interaction between the Oberih register and the State Migration Service.
The Ministry of Defence explains why this mechanism was introduced and what steps to take in case of data errors.
Automatic military registration saves time for those liable for military service, as they do not have to stand in queues, collect paperwork, or undergo a Military Medical Commission examination for registration. It also eases the workload of enlistment office staff by reducing administrative tasks and allowing them to focus on mobilisation issues.
In addition, these changes have enabled the registration of Ukrainians living abroad, restoring access to passport services, as well as citizens aged 17 to 25 who are required to register during this period.
However, there are cases where individuals who have long been removed from the register are still registered. Or those who are registered but without a mark in the Oberih register. This may happen due to the large volume of mobilisation work and the human factor: for example, if an enlistment office operator did not enter the person's ID in the register.
In such cases, individuals should contact their local enlistment office and resolve the issue with the assistance of staff by providing all relevant documents confirming removal from the register, the reason for the removal, or proof of registration with another enlistment office.
