AI and Ukraine’s defence strategy: Mykhailo Fedorov and Palantir Technologies discuss cooperation to strengthen security

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, held a meeting with Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir Technologies. The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, data analysis and the scaling of technological solutions.

During the meeting, Mykhailo Fedorov presented Ukraine’s defence strategy, which is based on three key domains: air, land and the economy.

Sky protection is Ukraine’s key objective

The parties paid special attention to the air domain. In particular, the Minister of Defense outlined Ukraine’s key objectives in the field of sky protection:

  • 100% identification of aerial targets;
  • at least 95% interception of enemy aerial targets;
  • the use of AI solutions to predict and counter air threats;
  • achieving air superiority and transferring the war onto russian territory.

During the winter period, russia used around 27,000 Shahed-type attack drones against Ukraine. Despite this, Ukraine continues to steadily expand its capabilities for detecting and intercepting aerial targets. 

Data for battlefield decisions

Mykhailo Fedorov also presented changes for the army being prepared by the Ministry of Defence, and approaches to deterring the enemy on the ground.

Partners were shown the Army of Drones system. Bonus and the principle of operation of e-Points.

The Mission Control system in DELTA, which changes the approach to troop management, was presented separately.

Deep strike and the economic domain

Within the economic domain, Ukraine is developing deep strike capabilities to target facilities that enable Russia to finance and wage war.

The role of sanctions in weakening the Russian military economy was also discussed.

Cooperation in the field of АІ

During the meeting, the Ministry of Defence team demonstrated the operation of Ukrainian AI solutions, which are already being used for:

  • combat data analytics;
  • detection of Russian targets;
  • mission planning;
  • enhancing the effectiveness of the Defence Forces’ operations.

The parties explored possible areas for further cooperation. Ukraine and Palantir Technologies may jointly develop technological solutions designed to strengthen the security of Ukraine and other countries.
