100,000 UAH during medical treatment: key information on payments for wounded service members

Service members who sustained an injury (wound, blast injury, or permanent disability) while defending the Homeland continue to receive service remuneration and an additional remuneration of 100,000 UAH during medical treatment and rehabilitation. The amount and duration of payments depend on the length of hospitalization, the severity of the injury, and the Military Medical Commission's conclusions.
The Ministry of Defence outlines the procedure for calculating payments during treatment and rehabilitation, as well as the eligibility criteria for financial assistance and one-time financial assistance.
Which payments continue during medical treatment
While undergoing treatment for an injury sustained in combat, service members continue to receive their service remuneration at the rate of their last position and receive an additional monthly remuneration of 100,000 UAH. These payments are made for the entire period of inpatient treatment—both in Ukraine and abroad—including periods of transfer between medical facilities. These payments also remain in effect during leave for medical treatment, subject to a determination by the Military Medical Commission that the injury is severe. If the injury is not classified as severe, payment of the additional remuneration (100,000 UAH) stops upon discharge from inpatient treatment.
At the beginning of medical treatment, the document serving as the basis for payments is the Certificate of Injury Circumstances (wound, blast injury, or permanent disability) (Appendix 5), issued by the commander of the military unit.
If medical treatment extends beyond four consecutive months, a Military Medical Commission conclusion on the necessity of prolonged treatment is required for payments to continue. This medical examination must be completed before the four-month period elapses. Based on such a conclusion and the relevant order of the commander, financial support is continued (for a total period of up to 12 consecutive months). The duration of treatment in Ukraine is verified by the Certificate of Injury Circumstances and a notification of hospitalization from the healthcare facility (after four months of treatment, by a Military Medical Commission decision). In cases of medical treatment abroad, it is confirmed by medical documents and border service records of crossing the state border.
Additional assistance
In addition to monthly payments during treatment, wounded defenders are entitled to additional assistance. First, this includes two annual payments equal to one month of service remuneration (excluding the 100,000 UAH additional remuneration): assistance for health improvement and financial assistance to address social and household needs. A combat-related injury alone is sufficient to qualify for the latter.
Second, the state pays one-time financial assistance. This compensatory payment is granted for health damage—disability or partial loss of working capacity without a disability determination—incurred in the defense of the Homeland, in the performance of military duties, or during military service. The amount of financial assistance is determined based on the established disability group or the percentage of loss of working capacity, and on the cause of such disability or loss, as determined by the Expert Team for Assessment of Everyday Functioning of Individuals.
