The Ministry of Defence has launched its own production of FPV drones
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has commenced licensed production of modern FPV drones at one of the state-run enterprises.
Under a pilot project launched in December of the previous year and coordinated by the Defence Innovation Directorate of the Ministry of Defence, the state now has the capacity to produce codified FPV drones. In the framework of the trilateral agreement, a private developer provided a licensing permit for UAV production at one of the state-run enterprises managed by the Ministry of Defence.
The production is intended to be supplied to the units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. Once the production technology is perfected and scaled, the state-run enterprise will be able to independently participate in tenders organized by the Defense Procurement Agency and other potential clients.
“The experience has been positive. By integrating the state into the production chains, we have gained a clear understanding of the production cost and our competitive advantages in this market. This will enhance the quality of the final products by fostering ongoing competition,” noted First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk.
Experts from the Defence Innovation Directorate within the Ministry of Defence have worked out a roadmap for organizing similar manufacturing facilities in collaboration with other unmanned aerial system (UAS) developers. This will allow us to significantly increase production capacity to scale up the manufacturing of products that contribute to achieving victory.
We are prepared to enhance cooperation with private companies. We have a set of template documents and a step-by-step guide for launching similar UAS production lines at other state-run enterprises,” said Yurii Taraniuk, Head of the Defence Innovation Directorate.
