Logistics for the Defense Forces in extreme weather conditions: Ministry of Defense participates in interagency exercises

Представники Міноборони та інших відомств під час командно-штабних навчань відпрацювали забезпечення логістики Сил оборони у надскладних погодних умовах.

During command-and-staff exercises, representatives from the Ministry of Defense and other agencies practiced assuring logistics support for the Defense Forces in extreme weather conditions.

According to the exercise scenario, Ukraine experienced the largest blizzard in decades, causing a complete road shutdown. The severe weather paralyzed traffic, leading to a build-up of vehicles on the roads and at entry points to major population centers in the central and northern parts of the country.

In the context of the ongoing war with russian aggressors, such road conditions on key defense routes could disrupt military logistics, making it impossible to transport personnel, military equipment, weapons, ammunition, and humanitarian aid.

Exercise participants identified a network of primary defense routes and sections with steep inclines and declines where snow removal and other special equipment would be deployed first. Additionally, they practiced monitoring conditions, collecting hydrometeorological data, providing rapid information to the public and transporters, setting movement restrictions or bans, and inspecting vehicle technical conditions.

The exercises were held at the Information and Analytical Center of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, with participation from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Restoration Agency, officials from regional and Kyiv city military administrations, the Patrol Police Department, the State Emergency Service, and the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety

The Ministry of Defense was represented by Colonel Artem Voronin, a chief specialist in the Emergency Prevention Department of the Civil Protection Directorate of the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety. He emphasized to all exercise participants that maintaining defense roads in proper condition is crucial for reliable logistical support in carrying out tasks for the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
