Rustem Umerov discusses Ukraine's defense needs with Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto
During the official visit to Italy, the Defence Minister of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, held negotiations with his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto.
In particular, Rustem Umerov presented President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan, focusing on issues related to Ukraine's defense capabilities.
He emphasized the important role of Italian air defense systems. “The SAMP-T air defense systems provided by Italy are reliably protecting Ukrainian cities from russian missile and drone attacks. This allows us to ensure safety and continue the development of the economy,” said the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
The defense ministers of both nations also deliberated on potentially increasing Italy's investment in the Ukrainian defense industry and setting up joint Ukrainian-Italian defense enterprises.
According to Rustem Umerov, Ukraine has significant industrial potential that can be used to increase weapon production.
“Our objective is to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities by ramping up the manufacturing of weaponry. The creation of a joint strategic reserve of weapons and ammunition is also in the interest of our partners,” he emphasized.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine also briefed his Italian counterpart in detail on the ongoing situation at the front and the key needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, adding: “We have significant achievements for our warriors, which we will announce soon.”
At the same time, Guido Crosetto highlighted the growing support for Ukraine from European partners, particularly in the defense sector.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.
